The Energy Storage division in Garching focuses its research on the generation, storage, and conversion of renewable energy as well as its integration into the building sector and industrial processes.
The research revolves around storage solutions for increased energy efficiency: sensible, latent, and thermochemical heat storages as well as redox flow batteries for scalable electricity storage or PEM electrolysis for power-to-gas applications. Moreover, methods and technologies are being explored which allow for a sensible and efficient integration of such storages into existing systems, from single-family homes to industrial plants to supply grids. Solar and geothermal energy provide climate-neutral heat generation, heat pumps and chillers serve to convert energy into usable or storable form, dynamic simulations and detailed monitoring allow for the planning, design, and optimisation of energy systems. For interested customers, we offer services ranging from material characterisation and component development to the planning and construction of demonstration setups.
